   SPIE Student Chapter V. Karazin Kharkov National University (KNU) was organized in January 2007 by 10 founding student members with Dr. Svetlana V. Boriskina, the Faculty Advisor. The Chapter was officially approved by SPIE in April 2007.

   SPIE Student Chapter at is a professional and social society composed of graduate and post-graduate students. Membership in the Chapter is open to all SPIE Student Members in Kharkov, Ukraine. The Chapter is committed to introducing students to the field of optics as well as to related educational, scientific and career opportunities and to supporting them in their research accomplishments. The Chapter members promote optics within the university through undergraduate awareness, optics representation in student government and promotion of inter-school information exchange. The Chapter members participate in community educational outreach in the form of
  • school education
  • community education (i.e. university tours or lectures)
  • promotion of the optics programs at KNU by hosting conferences, lectures and seminars, and by organizing joint educational, research and public outreach activities with other Student Chapters within Ukraine
